(1) Fageol truck company didn’t survive the Great Depression and went into receivership with the Central Bank of Oakland and the Waukesha Motor Co. operating the company from 1932-38. In 1939, T. A. Peterman purchased the factory and its contents and renamed the truck company “Peterbuilt” --- and the rest is history!
(2) Waukesha was one of several engine manufactures that collaborated in designing the WWl Liberty Truck engine of 1917-18. The engine committee consisted of Waukesha‘s Harold Horning and James Fisher, along with; AF Milbrath of Wisconsin Motors; Charles Ballough of Hercules Motor; Charles Hinkley of Hinkley Motors; Charles Whitehart of Continental Motors and Charles Broege of Buda Motors.)
(3) Sternberg and Waukesha had a special relationship. Old timers at Waukesha related that Waukesha helped design the original Sternberg truck. The “Sternberg” name was changed to “Sterling” prior to WWI. The Sternberg/Sterling truck company used Waukesha’s almost exclusively up until 1952 when White purchased the company and phased it out by 1958. In 1998 Daimler-Benz resurrected the “Sterling” name, but dropped it in 2008.
(4) The c1948 Thew/Lorain MC-820 Moto-Crane was the largest truck-crane in the world at the time. It was rated at 45 tons and both its carrier and crane engines were powered by 225 HP Waukesha Model 6WAKD diesels!
